State and demands for continuing education for doctors and clinical nurses working at Department of Emergency - Intensive Care and Anti-Poison in Khanh Hoa General Hospital in 2017

Doctors and clinical nurses working at two Departments: Emergency, Intensive Care and Anti-Poison in Khanh Hoa General Hospital have had demands for continuing education to enhance their job skills and adapt the increasing requirements from the patients. Describing the duties and demand for trainning of them were absolutely neccessary to specify the content and suitable form for the continuing education.

Objectives: 1) Describe the duties of doctors and clinical nurses at two Departments: Emergency, Intensive Care and Anti-Poison in Khanh Hoa General Hospital in 2017. 2) Determine the demands for continuing education of doctors and clinical nurses in Emergency - Intensive Care and Anti-Poison Departments in Khanh Hoa General Hospital in 2017.

Methods: a cross-sectional descriptive study with the combination of qualitative and quantitative research. In the quantitative research, 114 doctors and clinical nurses in two departments answered the self-administered questionnaire. In the qualitative research, 09 managers and staffs who involed in continuing education were interviewed.

Main findings: Most of the doctors and clinical nurses often did their duties confdently. They were also well-trained (>80%). 100% of doctors and clinical nurses had the demands of continuing education. About training form: 89% participants wanted to be trained 2 to 3 times per year, 57% wanted 2-5 days training sessions, 58.8% wanted to attend direct and focused training courses, 92.1% wanted to be trained at the hospital and 89.5% wanted an training course combined theory with practice.

Conclusions: doctors and clinical nurses were limited in communication and collaboration skills. They wanted to be attended in short training course combined theory with practice at the hospital.
